Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a resin having excellent balance among impact resistance, stress deterioration resistance and appearance, by adding a vinyl monomer to a latex of large-particle rubbery polymer, ploymerizing the mixture, adding a small-particle rubbery polymer to the mixture and emulsion-polymerizing the resulting mixture.
CONSTITUTION: In emulsion-polymerizing (A) 70W30pts.wt. vinyl monomer in the presence of (B) 30W70pts.wt. (as solids) rubbery polymer latex; (1) a latex of a large-particle size (weight-average particle size ≥0.25μ) polymer is charged in an amount corresponding to 50W75wt% (as solids) of total rubbery polymers (B) and a vinyl monomer is added in an amount corresponding to 45W95wt% of the total vinyl monomers and the mixture is polymerized until the conversion reaches 60wt% or higher, and (2) a latex of a small-particle size (weight-average particle size ≤0.2μ) rubbery polymer is added to the polymerization system in an amount corresponding to 50W25wt% (as solids) of the total rubbery polymers and a vinyl monomer is added in an amount corresponding to 55W5wt% of the total vinyl monomers and the resulting mixture is completely emulsion-graft-polymerized.
