Abstract

PURPOSE: To ensure optimum air/fuel ratio correction in accordance with an air density in an internal combustion engine by a method wherein the correction of an engine intake air density is carried out when the engine intake air density is judged smaller due to increase of an intake temperature, increase of a duty cycle of an air/fuel ratio control magnetic valve, and decrease of a barometric pressure.
CONSTITUTION: During operation of an engine, detection signals Ta and Pa of an intake temperature sensor 13 and an atmospheric pressure 14 are inputted a computer 11 to compare with prefixed reference values To and Po, respectively. When neight Ta>To nor Pa<Po are met, a solenoid valve 6 is opened to flow air from an air cleaner 1 through a venturi negative pressure passage 7. On the other hand, when either of the above-mentioned conditions is met, it is judged that the intake air density is small, and the solenoid valve 6 is closed. This stops flow of air from the air cleaner 1 via the venturi negative pressure passage 7, increases the air flow rate to an air intake passage 4, and shifts an air/fuel ratio to lean side.
