Abstract

PURPOSE:To supply a large current to a glow plug, by applying current to the glow plug during start through barium titanate resistors whose resistance is small below a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION:A glow plug 6 is connected to a starting resistor 7 and a parallel circuit of a normal use resistor 8 in series. The starting resistor 7 has such character as shown Fig. 2. It is made of barium titanate ceramics and its Curie point is about 170 deg.C. Because resistance of the starting resistor 7 is small in start, large current is supplied to the glow plug 6 through the resistor 7. In normal operation, resistance of the resistor 7 becomes larger than that of resistor 8 constituted by a metallic resistor, therefore current is supplied to the glow plug 6 through the resistor 8. Thus, a large current can be supplied to the glow plug in starting phase.
