Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a carbonaceous material of high quality suitable for carbonaceous brick, graphite electrodes, aluminum electrosmelting electrodes, metallurgical materials, etc., by adding a suitable amount of pitch to raw specific delayed coke, pulverizing the resultant mixture while mixing, molding the resultant powder, and calcining or graphitizing the molded material.
CONSTITUTION: A raw delayed coke is solely pulverized to an average particle diameter of 100μ or less, molded without adding a binder thereto, calcined to foam and expand or semisintered to give a raw sintered delayed coke. A binder pitch in an amount in the range of 5wt% to [0.39×[the volatile content of the raw delayed coke, preferably 8W15%]+13.1]wt% is added to the resultant coke, and simultaneously pulverized while mixing to give a fine powder having an average particle diameter of 100μ or less. The resultant powder is then molded and calcined preferably at a temperature of 1,100W1,400°C or graphitized at 2,500W3,000°C to give the aimed carbonaceous material.
