Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a carbonaceous material for impregnation, having through pores with uniform pore size, by the procedure in which a heat treated pitch of a high softening point obtained from the heat treatment of a pitch of a low softening point and an aggregate are mixed, then molded, and lastly baked for graphitization.
CONSTITUTION: A heat treated pitch containig 10 to 30 wt % volatile matter is mixed, after being ground into particles of an average grain size of less than 100 microns, with an aggregate coke uniformly, and then the mixture is molded and then baked and graphitized to obtain a carbonaceous substance with an uniform and through pore. When mixing aggregate coke and heat treated pitch or using heat treated pitch alone, the grain size can be freely regulated in order to obtain any desired size of pores. And, to obtain carbonaceous substance with more uniform constitution, it is necessary to make the grain size finer down to an average grain size of 68 microns or less.
