Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a low hydrogen type covered arc welding rod producing a welding metal having the excellent welding workability and the joint performance by covering core wire of low carbon steel with covering material for formation of low nickel type welding metal.
CONSTITUTION: In carrying out welding of structual steel plate in a cold district, for covering material used for low hydrogen type covered electrode, material of following composition is used in order to make COD value at about -10°C temperature more large, therefore, to make welding joint of excellent low temperature toughness to form. That is; 2W10wt% TiO2, 38W58wt% metallic carbonate of CaCO3, MgCO3 or the like, 10W25wt% CaF2, 1W6wt% Mn, 3W7wt% Si, 0.8W 6.5wt% Ni and 0.05W0.7wt% boron oxide expressed in terms of B2O3, in which powder of ≤74μ size occupies ≥50% of the whole quantity, are mixed together as each having powderlike state, then this mixture is made to cover core wire of low carbon steel of 0.01W0.05wt% C. Thereby, the electrode producing the welding joint of which the COD value having less dispersion is prepared.
