Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable combustion of high power in an internal combustion engine with a main and an accessory combustion chambers, by separately supplying a thick mixture of high flow velocity through an accessory intake passage and a thick mixture of low flow velocity through a main intake passage.
CONSTITUTION: A thick mixture supplied from a carburetor C is divided into a flow along a wall surface 32 of small curvature and another flow along a wall surface 34 of large curvature. The mixture along the wall surface 32 is hydrodynamically accelerated and flows in the direction of an arrow (a) and is conducted into an accessory combustion chamber 22 through an accessory intake passage 16 and an accessory intake valve 18. The mixture along the wall surface 34 flows at a relatively low speed in the direction of an arrow (b) and is conducted into a main combustion chamber 10 through a main intake passage 10 and a main intake valve 14. Both the mixture almost simultaneously reach the combustion chambers 10, 22. The mixture in the main combustion chamber 10 is burned by a flame which is produced by igniting and explosing the mixture in the accessory combustion chamber 22 with a spark plug 24 and which is ejected from a torch nozzle 26.
