Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain casting pieces which have no unsolidified part after the working and also no internal defects, by controlling the thickness of the solidified part to be formed on the outer surface of casting pieces under appropriate conditions, after the molten metal is poured into a mold.
CONSTITUTION: In continuous casting process, the working is performed so that the thickness of the solidified part is formed under conditions which meet the formula I, II, and III (where, ds: thickness of solidified part at outer surface of casting piece, do: thickness of casting peice before working, d: thickness of casting piece after working, R: radius of working roll, μ: coefficient of friction between working roll and outer surface of casting roll), against the casting piece poured into a mold. This method is conceived to appropriately select the time and location of working point of pressure contacting, so that a solidified portion which has a proper temperature and a thickness is formed on the outer surface of the casting piece, and a casting piece which has a remaining solid-liquid coexisting part or a molten part and a solid-liquid coexisting part at the inner portion may be formed. Therefore, there will be no rolling-in of any unsolidified part on in the pressure contacted part due to the working roll, and thus occurrences of internal defects can be prevented.
