Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an opal glass composition having a low m.p. and causing no blackening after coating using an org. solvent and backing by adding a specified amount of ZrO2 to base glass contg. no Pb and substituting fluorides for part of the oxides of the composition.
CONSTITUTION: 3W10mol ZrO2 is added to 100mol base glass having a composition ≥98mol% of which except water consists of 10W24% SiO2, 24W30% Al2O3, 20W30% B2O3, 10W15% RO and 15W22% R2O (28W35% RO+R2O, RO is CaO, ZnO, BaO or the like, and R2O is Li2O, Na2O or the like), and fluorides are substituted for part of those oxides including ZrO2 by 5W15mol as F2 to 100mol of the base glass. Since the resulting glass composition contains ZrO2 as an opacifier, crystal particles are deposited during coating and baking to accelerate opacification, and the composition has characteristics such as a low softening temp.
