Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the production process and to reduce the cost, by producing the electrode through a way in which a suspension of a fluororesin is coated on one side of one of catalyst layer and diffusion layer, dried, and another layer is pressed on it, and it is heat-treated at a temperature of melting of the fine particles of fluororesin. CONSTITUTION:A suspension 3 of a fluororesin is coated on one surface of a diffusion layer 2 which is formed by bonding of carbon powder and dried to disperse and attach fine particles of the fluororesin homogeneously on one surfce of the diffusion layer 2. Then a catalyst layer 1 comprising a porous plate containing a catalyst is pressed on it, and it is heat-treated at about 350 deg.C to melt the fine particles 4 of the fluororesin, and thus the diffusion layer 2 and catalyst layer 1 are bonded together firmly to form a gas diffusion electrode. Thus the cost can be reduced greatly comparing with a way in which resin sheet is used, and the production process can be simplified.
