Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce fuel consumption by a method wherein a cam shaft provided with a cam for an intake valve is rotated by the title control device. CONSTITUTION:A relative rotational position adjusting device 10 which is capable of controlling the cam shaft 1 and which is driven by an input side gear (not shown) is provided at the driving side end of the cam shaft 1. Further, delayed and advanced angle chamber 9 and 8 which communicate with passages 18 and 19, respectively, are provided at the right side end of a slider 7 and the passages 18 and 19 are made to communicate with each other through an electromagnetic valve 20 controled by a control device (not shown) comprising an electric timing system. When the control device is operated in response to an engine load and for example, a solenoid 21' is energized, a spool valve 25 moves in the direction of A to supply a pressure oil to the chamber 9 so that the slider 7 slides to the right and the body 28 of the cam shaft 1 is rotated to thereby delay the timing angle of the valve. On the contrary, when a solenoid 21 is energized, the pressure oil is likewise supplied to the chamber 8 so that the slider 7 slides to the left to thereby advance the timing angle of the valve.
