PURPOSE:To obtain a gravure screen which is large-sized and inexpensive, by forming a shading thin film layer on the outside circumferential surface of a transparent cylindrical roller, forming a mesh pattern on this layer by means of laser scanning, and subsequently, printing a mesh pattern on a photosensitive material. CONSTITUTION:A shading thin film layer 2 consisting of Cu, Cr, Al, etc. is formed by means of vapor deposition, etc. on the outside circumferential surface of a cylindrical roller 1 which has been made from transparent glass or acrylic resin, etc. Rotating this roller 1 by use of a driving device 3, a laser beam is made to execute a reciprocating motion in the axial direction of the roller 1 by a lead screw 6, to the thin film layer 2 through a head 5 from an argon laser generator 4, the thin film layer 2 of an irradiation part is selectively removed, and a mesh pattern 8 is formed. Subsequently, a rodlike irradiation lamp 9 is placed in the center part of the roller 1, a weblike photosensitive material 10 is made to run continuously, the pattern 8 on the roller 1 is exposed, and a screen is continuously manufactured in an endless state. When a carbon tissue is used as a photosensitive material 10, a tissue for a gravure printing plate can be obtained directly.
