Abstract

PURPOSE:To scavenge the residual gas from a combustion chamber completely by a method wherein sucked air supplied under pressure from a pump is injected into a combustion chamber through an auxiliary air intake valve device and in this case, the injection of the sucked air is made when the piston comes near the upper dead center at which the piston begins to shift from its exhasut stroke to its air intake stroke. CONSTITUTION:A auxiliary air intake valve device 19 which is driven by a cam 16 through a rocker arm 18 is provided in a cyliner head provided with an air intake valve 9 and an exhaust valve 10. Further, an auxiliary air intake passage communicating with the outlet port of the pump 12 is connected to a throughhole 26 which opens on one side of a valve rod guide 22 of the valve device 19 and air intake port of the pump 12 is connected to an air cleaner through an air passage 13. A valve body 24 of the valve device 19 is opened at a position near the upper dead center at which the piston 6 shifts from its exhaust stroke to its air intake stroke so as to supply the sucked air transferred under pressure from the pump 12 to the combustion chamber 8 for a predetermined period of time. The direction of an injection port 27 of the valve device 19 is so determined that the residual gas within the combustion chamber 8 is scavenged to a sufficient degree.
