Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform stratified scavenging and improve thermal efficiency and purifying performance of exhaust gas, by utilizing exhaust energy, supplying fresh air into a cylinder from a scavenging device and providing said scavenging device in addition to a normal scavenging device. CONSTITUTION:A 2-cycle engine is operated in such a manner that a mixture is generated in a carburetor 13, fed into a crank chamber 8 from an intake passage 12 and pressed out ot a combustion chamber 3 at a scavenging stroke from a scavenging port 17 through a scavenging passage 16 to discharge exhaust gas from an exhaust port 22. In this case, a check valve 19, opened by negative pressure in a cylinder immediately after the blow down of exhaust gas, is provided to a cylinder head 12. Then at opening of said check valve 19, fresh air is allowed to flow into the combustion chamber 3 through an air passage 18 from an air cleaner 15. Opening of said check valve 19 is performed prior to opening of the scavenging port 17, in this way, stratified scavenging can be performed to increase thermal efficiency of the engine and improve purifying performance of exhaust gas.
