Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect a starting end position precisely during high-speed retrieval by employing uneven phase groove structure for a rotation starting end detection mark for detecting one turn of an optical disk, and an address starting end detection mark for detecting the position of the address area of each track. CONSTITUTION:At the circumference part of an optical disk provided with two address areas 1 on concentric circular groove-shaped guide tracks, an address starting end detection mark (address mark) 3 is formed in an arc having an angle equal to that of the address areas 1 as the same groove structure body with the track guide groove similarly to a sector starting end detection mark 4 and a rotation starting end detection mark 5 for detecting one turn of the disk. Consequently, a detection system for an index mark area 7 only detects the overall reflectivity of an index mark 10, so an inexpensive incoherent photodetection system is usable. Therefore, a starting end position is detected stably and precisely even during high-speed retrieval.
