Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the durability of a developer and to form a high density image by adding hydrophobic colloidal silica to the surface of the carrier and the toner. CONSTITUTION:Iron powder is coated with a soln. of a binder resin such as alkyd resin contg. hydrophobic colloidal silica and dried to prepare carrier particles. Toner particles consisting of a binder such as styrene resin and carbon black is dry-mixed with hydrophobic colloidal silica by means of a Henschel mixer to prepare a toner component. By mixing the carrier particles with the toner component, a developer is formed. This developer contg. hydrophobic colloidal silica in both the toner and the carrier has further increased durability as compared to a developer contg. such silica added only to the toner.
