PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect stably obstacles that range from a near distance to a far distance by controlling issuing time of an ultrasonic wave and band range in a receiving system based on the distance data. CONSTITUTION:Ultrasonic wave sent from a wave transmitter 3 is reflected by an obstacle and detected by a wave receiver 4. This information is stored by R- SFF12 until the time of next wave transmission and at the same time sets the changeover circuit 13 in the state of passing. Further, the distance data that was detected is held in a latch circuit 10 for display, and then successively latched in a latch circuit 14 for control. Based on the distance information latched in the latch circuit 14, a timing generator 1 is controlled if the distance is found to be short to shorten the time to transmit ultrasonic wave and widen at the same time the BPF6. In this way obstacles from a near distance to a far distance can be detected stably.
