PURPOSE:To simplify and miniaturize the constitution of a distance measuring device, by generating the pulse of width that corresponds to a measured distance by controlling the charging and discharging of a capacitor according to the transmission and reception of an ultrasonic wave pulse. CONSTITUTION:When an ultrasonic wave pulse is transmitted from transmitter 3, coupling capacitor C4, transistor Q3, etc., turn on transistor Q4 to output transmission detection inversion signal SF, charging large-capacity capacitor C9 of pulse processing circuit 7. This capacitor C9 is discharged when transistor Q7 is turned on by a reception detection output from smoothing circuit G of amplifying/pulse- generating circuit 6 during the reception of a reflected ultrasonic wave pulse from a target by receiver 5. Therefore, the pulse of width that corresponds to a measured distance is generated by pulse processing circuit 7 and the one period of FETQ8 is controlled to display the measured distance on display device 8.
