Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent a head and a medium from breaking down by coating a specularly polished base material layer on a substrate with a metallic magnetic medium layer, and coating a proteective film which contains an antistatic agent over it directly or with a nonmagnetic alloy layer interposed. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 1 is obtained by mechanically working titanium or aluminum alloy, and a base material layer 2 is plated with Ni-P alloy, etc., and polished mechanically. On it, a metallic magnetic medium layer 3 is formed of alloy containing Co, Ni or Fe by plating, vapor dposition, or sputtering. A protective film 4 is formed by coating, vapor-depositing or sputtering a silicic acid polymer, glass or other silicates, nonmagnetic metal such as Rh and Cr or its alloy, or oxide of alloy of Al, Co and Ni. An antistatic agent is added to the protective film by dissolving a prescribed amount of the desired antistatic agent in a solution for protective film formation, or by dipping a magnetic storage body coated with the protective film in a solution of the antistatic agent. The antistatic agent uses a cationic or anionic surface active agent.
