Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve high-density recording to an endless tape without causing signal absence and discontinuity, by using a head body which has two heads differing in gap azimuth and employing a specific method. CONSTITUTION:An input signal is inputted through a recording signal processor 18 to a signal delay circuit 17, whose delay output is inputted to a head A through a switch 16, and the output of the processor 18 is inputted to a head B through a switch 15. The delay circuit 17 has delay time td=d/V which corresponds to a gap interval (d) between two gaps of a head body 8. When the head A forms a track T1, the switch 16 is closed and the switch 15 is opened, and when a tape takes one round and the gap alpha of the head A coincides with a position 7, the switch 15 is closed. At this time, the gap B of the head B is at a position 9 and a track T2 starts at a position 9. The head A preforms recording continuously unitl the alpha reaches the position 9, i.e., for a time td when the alpha moves from the position 7 to 9, and the track T1 ends at the position 9, thereby starting operation with the switch 16 opened.
