Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate the control for keeping of a gap between a latent image carrier and a toner carrying means facing to this carrier, by supplying a toner to the toner carrying means successively while making the quantity of charge of the toner different by plural toner supplying means to extend this gap. CONSTITUTION:When the first- the third sleeves 8, 8a, and 8b are rotated clockwise and a developing sleeve 5 is rotated counterclockwise, a toner 3 in a tank 4 is carried on respective sleeves clockwise by the magnetic action, and toner layers 14, 14a, and 14b on sleeves 8, 8a, and 8b are charged with quantities of charge different from one another by friction which is caused when the toner is scraped by tips of blades 10, 10a, and 10b, and these toner layers are carried onto the developing sleeve 5 to form a fairly thick toner layer 16. Consequently, the gap between a photosensitive drum 2 and the developing sleeve 5 is set to a longer value in accordance with the thickness of the toner layer 16.
