Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve heat transfer performance of a liquid-cooled engine, in which heat is transmitted from a heat receiving part to a heat radiating part through convection of liquid in a liquid jacket provided in a main unit of the engine, by dividing the inside of the liquid jacket into plural flow passages with partitions and preventing a liquid flow from mixing. CONSTITUTION:An engine 1 constitutes a heat receiving part A by internal walls of a cylinder 4 and combustion chamber 8, and a heat radiating part B by external walls of a cylinder block 2 and cylinder head 3. Further the heat radiating part B is provided with heat radiating fins 10, and a series of fluid jackets 11 are formed in said both parts A, B. Here partitions 12 are provided in said jacket 11 to divide its inside into upflow passages 11a at a side of the heat receiving part A and downflow passages 11b at a side of the heat radiating part B, simultaneously the both flow passages 11a, 11b are communicated to each other in the respective upper and lower parts by communication passages 13, 14. In this way, liquid L in the jacket 11 can be efficiently and naturally circulated by convection in accordance with operation of the engine 1, and heat transmission is promoted from the heat receiving part A to the heat radiating part B.
