Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a secondary cell which can be charged by light and has high conversion efficiency and a low cost by absorbing halogen generated from light analysis of a solid electrolyte as a charge-transfer complex in the second electrode and forming a cell together with silver remaining in a transparent electrode. CONSTITUTION:A transparent electron conductive material 2, which is independent from a cell reaction, such as SnO2 doped with In, is applied to a lead glass plate 1 to form a transparent electrode. An electrolyte film 3 is adhered on this electrode by flame coating or the like. An electrode 4 mainly made of a halogen charge-transfer complex is attached to it, then a packing material is stuffed and sealed by the second electrode consisting of a current collector 5 of the halogen complex electrode 4 to form a photocell. A mixed reactant of silver salt containing silver halogenide and copper salt containing copper halogenide (e.g., PbAgxCu4-xIgCl5-y) is used for this electrolyte film 3. It is proper to use, e.g., an iodine complex of polyvinylpyrrolidone for the halogen charge-transfer complex 4.
