Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce variation of potential, to stabilize color-developing electric quantity, and to extend service life, by using an intercalation substance between a transition metallic oxide and lithium for an opposite electrode. CONSTITUTION:An electrochromic layer 3 made of a transition metallic oxide is provided on a display electrode 2 made of a transparent electrode film formed on the inside of a transparent glass substrate 1, and a counter electrode 5 made of an intercalation substance between a transition metallic oxide, such as MnO2 and lithium is formed on the inside of a glass substrate 4. In the space formed between the electrode 2 and the substrate 4 an electrolytic solution 8 containing lithium ions, and a light diffusion sheet 9 made of a porous fluorocarbon sheet containing TiO2 are sealed in.
