Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve cast iron structure effectively without using any adhesives by mixing molten cast iron of hyper eutectic composition contg. specific amts. of C and Si with molten cast iron of hypoeutectic composition of the specific EC value and controlling the contents of C and Si.
CONSTITUTION: Molten cast iron which is of hypereutectic composition and is of 3.6W5.4wt% content of carbon and 6.0W14.0wt% content of silicon is mixed at a suitable amt. into molten cast iron of hypoeutectic composition of 2.1W4.3% CE value, whereby it is controlled to the molten cast iron of 2.6W3.8wt% content of carbon and 1.0W3.0wt% content of silicon. Thence, this molten metal is cast into mold without adding any adhesives thereto or after adding a very slight amt. thereof to this molten metal, whereby gray cast iron is produced. Thereby, the effect of the added molten metal is sustained for about 30min to 1hr, the production of cementite is prevented and the crystallization of micrographite and eutetic graphite is reduced.
