Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a titled mill usable for both vertical and horizontal rolls without changing the pass line for rolling materials and rolling stands by inserting horizontal driving shafts provided with bevel gears into the upper and lower bearing parts of a housing after removal of horizontal rolls and making the same usable for vertical rolls. CONSTITUTION:After horizontal rolls are removed from a rolling stand incorporating the horizontal rolls, a housing 21a, an idle shaft 24, a horizontal driving shaft 25 and left and right vertical rolls 28, 28a as one set are inserted through the window of the stand. One spindle shaft for driving of the horizontal rolls is connected to a joint part 40, and the other spindle shaft is connected to the part 40a, by which the shaft 25 is revolved. Then, the rolls 28, 28a are revolved by the bevel gears 27, 27a provided to the shaft 25. Hence, there is no need for changing the rolling stand when changing the horizontal rolls to vertical rolls or vice versa and the use of both horizontal and vertical rolls is made possible with the same rolling stand and the same driving system.
