Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture magnesium potassium sulfate of high grade in a high yield by chemically reacting magnesium hydroxide, potassium chloride and sulfuric acie at the same time in the manufacture of magnesium potassium sulfate.
CONSTITUTION: Magnesium hydroxide and fresh water are charged into a kneader 3 from vessels 1, 2, respectively to to prepare a uniform slurry 5, and the slurry 5 is fed to a reactor 8 with a pump 4. While agitating the slurry 5, potassium chloride is charged from a vessel 7, and sulfuric acid is slowly poured from a vessel 6. When the pH reaches 7.0, the pouring of sulfuric acid is stopped, and the agitation is continued. The supernatant is then separated, and the slurry is fed to a centrifugal separator 9 to obtain magnesium potassium sulfate crystals 10. The crystals 10 are further reacted with potassium chloride and fresh water in a reactor 14, and by dehydrating the reaction product with a centrifugal separator 15, potassium sulfate crystals 16 of high grade are obtd.
