Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the adhesiveness to adhesives for sealing, prevent the degradation or the like in orientation characteristic on account of entry of moisture or the like, and obtain a long life element of high reliability by coating a specific titanate type coupling agent on insulation substrates of a liquid crystal display element and forming vertical oriented films. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 2, 2 are formed on insulation substrate 1, 1 of a positive type guest-host type liquid crystal display element, a phase transfer type liquid crystal element, etc., after which an org. silicone compound is coated and backed, whereby SiO2 insulation films 3, 3 are formed. Next, a toluene solution of a titanate type coupling agent such as isopropyltriisostearoyl titnate is coared and is dried at 120 deg.C, whereby vertical oriented films 4, 4 are formed. Thence, these are sealed by using an epoxy resin adhesive or the like 5, and a liquid crystal material 6 is sealed therein. In this way, the long life display element of which the display characteristics are difficult to degrade is obtained.
