Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a fluorescent substance having excellent luminescent efficiency at high temperatures and capable of emitting red color light by ultraviolet rays from an Eu-activated rare earth titanate of a specific composition.
CONSTITUTION: The oxides of Ln (Y, Gd, or La), Eu, and Ti as the constituents of a fluorescent substance, or their salts which are easily oxidisable are weighed in given proportions, ground sufficiently in a ball mill, and then baked at 800W 1,400°C for 0.5W6hr to obtain an Eu-activated rare earth metal titanate fluorescent substance of the formula (Ln1-xEux)2O3.nTiO2 (where Ln is one or more of Y, Gd, and La, 0.01≤x≤0.2, and 0.8≤n≤2.2).
EFFECT: The fluorescent substance thus obtained has a white body color and excellent temperature dependency similar to or higher than that of vanadic acid-based ones. Said fluorescent substance is capable not only of being excited by an ultraviolet ray of 2,537Å but also of effectively emitting light upon excitation of 3650Å.
