Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for agricultural chemicals and drugs in a short time in high yield, by treating a furancarbinol compound using a water solvent and an inorganic salt of Mg.
CONSTITUTION: A furancarbinol compound shown by the formula I [R1 is 1W6C alkyl, 1W6C alkenyl having no unsaturated bond at the end of linkage, alkynyl, or a group shown by the formula II (R2 is H, methyl, or halogen)] is dissolved or suspended in a water solvent dissolving an inorganic salt of magnesium, e.g., MgCl2, etc., heated to 20W200°C, preferably 80W150°C, and a reaction is carried out while pH being adjusted to 3W7 by buffer solutions of an acid and base, to give a compound shown by the formula III. If the reaction is over at the time when the formation of the desired compound reaches the maximum, the conversion to cyclopentenolones can be prevented.
USE: An intermediate for drugs, e.g., prostaglandin, etc.
