Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the longitudinal cracking of corner parts, breakout, etc. and obtain a steel slab of less surface defects in a continuous casting method of a steel slab, by so setting the short side taper of a mold as to substantially satisfy the specific formula. CONSTITUTION:In a continous casting method of a steel slab, the short side taper of a mold is so set as to substantially satisfy the formula [T'P (Z); short side taper of the mold (%/m), beta; in-mold heat extraction characteristic value of mold flux (integers of 1-10), V: casting speed (m/mm.), Z; distance taken in the pouring direction from meniscus (m)], whereby the longitudinal cracking in the surface and inside of the corner parts is considerably decreased, and the breakout owing to steel leakage through the corner longitudinal cracks may be nearly prevented, thus the steel slab of less surface defects is obtained.
