Abstract

PURPOSE: The reaction of a readily available 7-amino-cephem compound with 1H- tetrazolacetic acid or its reactive derivative gives a cephalosporin derivative useful as a synthetic intermediate of antibacterial.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I or its salt is made to react with another compound of formula II or its reactive derivative in the carboxyl to give a cephalosporin derivative of formula III or its salt. The reaction is carried out in a solvent such as acetone, when necessary, in the presence of a condensing agent in a pH range from 6.0 to 7.5. The resultant compound of formula III is made to react with a compound of formula IV (R is H, methyl) to produce the compound of formula V useful as an antibacterial in high efficiency and safety. The compound of formula I is readily obtained by the reaction of 7-aminocephalospranic acid with 2-mercaptobenzimidazole.
