Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish simple and inexpensive regeneration of an ion exchange resin used for refining sugar liquid with a limited wash water by passing water in parallel after a back washing by a regenerating agent in the regeneration of the resin.
CONSTITUTION: To regenerate ion exchange resins for a cation exchange resin bed and an anion exchange resin bed deteriorated in the function due to refining, initially, a regenerating agent flows in the direction opposite to that of the sugar liquid's passage and then, water flows in the direction the same as that of the sugar liquid's passage. With such an arrangement, during the passage of the regenerating agent, the resin layer is regenerated near the inlet while some coloring elements are left near the outlet, that is, an incomplete state of regeneration. Subsequently, water passes through the incompletely regenerated resin layer to wash away ions in coloring elements or the like. This enables inexpensive and simple regeneration with limited washing water.
