Abstract

PURPOSE: To float and separate solid contents in the sludge to concentrate the sludge by a simple apparatus and method, wherein a gas is blown into a liquid phase containing a foaming agent to form bubbles and the bubbles are mixed with the sludge introduced.
CONSTITUTION: The incoming sludge from a line 21 is mixed in a mixing zone 22 with bubbles which are formed by blowing a gas such as air or oxygen into a suitable foaming agent. Then solid contents in the sludge are adsorbed to surfaces of the bubbles and further also are included into solids divided by stirring. The sludge- bubble mixture is delivered through a line 24 to a floating zone 25 where the solids are floated and separated. Accordingly, without special pressurizing and pressure reduction mechanisms, and with a simple apparatus and method, the sludge is concentrated effectively.
