CONSTITUTION:After a steel pipe 4 is tempered at 600 deg.C, it is conveyed by pinch rolls 3 in the direction of an arrow 7. The steel pipe 4 is quenched on the way with a cooling header 5 and a second cooling header 6. The quenching produces 20kg/mm.<2> tensile residual stress which is not higher than the yield stress. Hereby steel pipe having high crushing strength is manufactured without changing the chemical components of the steel.
