PURPOSE:To raise the machining speed and machining precision by controlling the electrodischarge starting voltage and the electrodischarge energy determining voltage of a capacitor separately. CONSTITUTION:As for the waveform of an interelectrode current between an article 1 to be machined and an electrode wire 2 through the intermediary of the machining liquid, the peak current value thereof is expressed by the formula: IP=E1(C1/L0)<1/2>, while the current pulse width thereof is expressed by the formula: tauP=pi(L0. C1)<1/2>, where E1 is the high-voltage DC power source voltage, C1 is the electrodischarge capacitor thereof, and L0 is the circuit inductance of the main circuit. Accordingly, by changing C1 and E1, the electrodischarge energy can be selected. In addition, by charging the capacitor C0, the electrodischarge starting voltage can be controlled by the low-voltage power source E0 employed for interelectrode servo through a diode D0 when the interelectrode aperture is narrow enough to make discharge. Moreover, a switch SW conducts switching only when the average value Vgo of the voltage Vg impressed on C0 for detecting the interelectrode length is found between VL and VH.
