Abstract

PURPOSE:To make construction simple by so opposedly disposing the ends of a pair of optical transmission lines in a manner as to allow the transmission of light signal and interposing a transmission material which attenuates the light signal transmitted therebetween through light diffusion thereby constituting the light attenuator. CONSTITUTION:A pair of optical fibers 7, 7' inserted into and held by optical fiber holders 8, 8' are inserted into a cylindrical body 9, by opposing their end faces to each other. A light transmission member 10 is provided between these opposing faces in such a manner as to closely contact the end faces of the optical fibers 8, 8' or by way of a spacing ring 11. Since the light transmission member 10 is constituted by a diffusing material of light comprising a glass plate coated with fine alumina particles or a resin plate mixed with said fine particles, the light signal transmitting in the optical fibers 7, 7' may be attenuated as specified and may thus be transmitted. Thereby, the construction may be made extremely simple.
