Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled composition which can be subjected to high-speed wire coating without lowering the flexibility and the softening temperature of the coating, by using a specific modified polyamide-imide resin obtained in a cresol- based solvent and having reduced methanol-soluble content and increased molecular weight.
CONSTITUTION: The titled resin containing ≤10wt% of methanol-soluble components and having a reduced specific viscosity of the methanol-insoluble parts of ≥0.15 in DMF, is prepared by reacting (A) an isocyanurate ring-containing polyisocyanate containing 10W70% of residual isocyanate, (B) an aromatic diisocyanate such as tolylene diisocyanate, (C) a lactam (pref. ε-caprolactam) and (D) a polycarboxylic acid containing acid anhydride group, e.g. trimellitic acid, in a cresol-based solvent. The amounts of (A) and (C) are 10W30 equivalent % and 20W90 equivalent % of the total isocyanate equivalent, respectively. Combined use of the titled resin with a thermosetting resin such as epoxy resin further improves the effect to prevent the degradation of the appearance and the lowering of the flexibility of the coating in the high-speed wire coating operation.
