Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a lubricating thin film excellent in the environmental resistance, by coating the surface of a magnetic medium such as a magnetic disk, etc. with a thin film of graphite fluoride and thus avoiding the wear or breakdown due to a mutual attachment or contact between a magnetic head and the recording medium. CONSTITUTION:The Ni-phosphorus alloy is plated on a substrate 1 of Al alloy, etc. to obtain an intermediate layer 2. The layer 2 is finished to a mirror surface. Then a metallic magnetic medium 3 is formed on the layer 2 with the Co-Ni-phosphorus alloy, etc. A layer of a semimetallic oxide 4 or metallic oxide 5 such as the oxides of Si, Ge, Co, Cr, Ni, Zr, Ga, Cu, Ag, etc. is formed as a substrate on the medium 3. Otherwise a metallic film 9, which either contains P or does not contain P but contains Co, Ni, Fe, Cr, Cu, Ti, W, Zr or Rh or a combination of these elements, is formed. Then the graphite fluoride powder of about 3mu grain size is spread on the oxide 4 (oxide 5, film 9), and the said powder is also spread on a polishing cloth. The oxide and the polishing cloth are rubbed together with an application of pressure to form a graphite fluoride thin film 6 in several Angstrom to several hundreds Angstrom thickness. Thus a wear-resistant film having an excellent adhesive property is obtained.
