Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance a yield of a steel ingot and added lead and, at the same time, to obtain a free cutting steel with a good quality by adding a lead particle into a molten steel along with an iron powdery particle to uniformly disperse said lead throughout the steel ingot.
CONSTITUTION: During supplying a molten steel in a lidle 1 into a pouring pipe 4 as a casting stream 3, a lead particle 10 in a hopper 22 and an iron powdery particle 20 in a hopper 22 are respectively added to and mixed in said casting stream 3. Then, said casting stream is divided into a lefthand and a righthand streams from a lower end of the pipe 4 to distribute and supply said divided streams into each casting molds 7, 7 from lower openings thereof respectively. During this time, the lead particles and the iron powdery particles are molten and the lead is uniformly dispersed into the molten steel as a single minute metal interposed substance. In this case, the iron powdery particle is molten at once and acts as a coagulation nucleus in a subsequent coagulating process to promote the coagulation of the molten steel. Then, prior to precipitating and accumulating the uniformly dispersed lead throughout the molten steel to a bottom part of the steel ingot, the coagulation is completed by the coagulation promoting effect of the iron powdery particle. Therefore, the lead accumulation to the bottom part is extremely reduced as compared to the conventional method as well as a cutting-off amount of the bottom part is also reduced extremely and, further, a lead dispersing condition is improved and, thereby, the free cutting steel with a good quality is obtained.
