Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the charge efficiency of a cadmium electrode by coating holes and surface of a conductive core with metallic cadmium and by providing thereby an active material consisting essentially of cadmium oxide on the cadmium metal layer. CONSTITUTION:A paste which is formed by adding and kneading methylcellulose, secondary thorium phosphate, polyethylene fiber and water in metal cadmium powder is coated on a conductive core 1 with many penetrating holes 2 comprising a nickel-plated iron plate, and dried to form a metal cadmium layer 3. Methylcellulose, secondary thorium phosphate, polyethylene fiber, and water are added and mixed with cadmium oxide to form a paste, the paste is coated on the metal cadmium layer 3 and dried to form an active material layer 4. Thus the charge efficiency of a cadmium electrode can be improved.
