Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce heaving and pitching amplitudes during a following wave navigation, by forming a ship into a hull structure so as to set the center of buoyancy behind the center of flotation.
CONSTITUTION: A shore 2 connects the upper hull 3 to the lower hull 1, and hydrofoils 4 are arranged on the opposite sides of the lower hull 1. And the lower hull 1 is formed into a shape to gradually increase its sectional area from forward to backward in order to move the whole center of buoyancy backward. However, the rear part of the lower hull is formed into a gimlet shape in relation to a screw propeller 1a to be fixed at the rear end. By this constitution, a half submerged catamaran ship can reduce heaving and pitching amplitudes and improve movement performance not alone on the point whereat the ship speed comes to correspond with wave propagating speed but also over very wide range even during a following wave navigation.
