Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate the execution of the welding in which input of welding heat is scattered by widening the space between welding electrodes in order to prevent embrittlement of welding heat affected zones by disposing a slag-heating electrode between the plural welding electrodes and heating the slag formed and melted by the preceding welding electrode by this.
CONSTITUTION: Welding is performed by covering the groove inside and upper part of the welding works 10 by a flux 4, and providing preceding and succeeding electrodes 1, 2 with a large space therebetween. The welding of the electrode 2 is performed after the temperature of the molten metal 9 formed by the electrode 1 becomes about ≤600°C, but in order to prevent the slag 7 from solidifying at that time and degradation in conductivity from occuring, a slag-heating electrode 3 is disposed between both electrodes. The electric current of the extent of not hampering the cooling of welding heat affected zones is supplied into the molten slag 7 by this electrode 3, by which the slag is reheated and the melting characteristic is maintained up to the welding position of the electrode 2. These enable the welding of the electrode 2 to be readily performed.
