Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound effective against allergic diseases, e.g. asthma, urticaria or atopic dermatitis, readily in high purity and yield, by reacting a calcon derivative with hydrogen azide or a salt thereof in the presence of water and an acid.
CONSTITUTION: A calcon derivative of formula I (X is OH or 1W3C alkoxyl; n is 2 or 3), e.g. 2-(2,3-dihydroxycinnamoyl)benzoic acid, is reacted with hydrogen azide or a salt thereof, e.g. sodium azide, in the presence of water and an acid, e.g. sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid, in a water-miscible solvent, e.g. dioxane, THF or DMF, or under solventless conditions to give a compound of formula II.
