Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the heat transfer efficiency by convection, by increasing the distance between bricks at the butting portion to a breadth larger than that required as a margin to expand.
CONSTITUTION: In chimney type laying method of regenerator bricks, the distance between bricks at the butting part is increased to ≥40mm breadth positively thereby accelerating turbulent flow of gas, improving the efficiency of heat transfer by convection and heat-exchange efficiency. For example, the distances L at the butting portions between bricks 2, 2 at four corners are increased to 55mm compared to 180mm sq. opening of the diameter R of the gas flow passage 1. Formerly, bricks are laid with 25mm distance between bricks at the butting portion compared with 150mm sq. opening of the diameter. This method permits to improve the heat efficiency without increase in the volume of regenerator and has an advantage that no specific working is required. Generally the increase of the distance is limited within about 70mm.
