Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a titled composite consolidated body which is useful as a superhard tool material by binding the mixed powders of cubic B4C powder having high hardness and oxidation resistance, and hard material powder having high hardness by means of an alloy made of an Ni-B alloy and a binding assistant metal.
CONSTITUTION: The mixture mixed with (by wt%) 40W90 cubic B4C powder coated with Ni-B-alloy having 70W95:5W30 ratio of cubic B4C to Ni-B alloy film having ≤1,400°C m.p., 6W40 hard material powder and 4W20 binding assistant metallic powder consisting of metallic powder of one or ≥2 kinds of Ti, Zr, Hf, V, and Nb, or alloy powder of ≥2 kinds having ≤1,400°C m.p., is prepared. By sintering this mixture under the stable temp. and pressure conditions for cubic B4C, the composite consolidated body consisting of cubic B4C-hard material which is useful as a superhard tool material is obtained.
