Abstract

PURPOSE:To return efficiently commutation energy of the chopper circuit to a power supply without wastefully consuming the commutation energy by providing a commutation capacitor in parallel with a load to return the commutation reactor energy to the the power supply. CONSTITUTION:When a gate signal is applied to a main SCR 5, an electric current flows from a power supply 1 through an inverted L type filter FIL, a main SCR 5, a commutation reactor 6 and a commutation reverse current preventive diode 9 to a load 11. At this time the capacitor 8 is charged to a power supply voltage. When a gate signal is applied to an auxiliary SCR7 at this time, charge stored in the capacitor 8 becomes resonant current through the reactor 6 and the SCR 7. Then, the induced voltage of the reactor 6 allows the main SCR5 to become off state, and the load 11 is thus isolated from the power supply 1. The energy stored in the reactor 6 thereafter is returned through the diode 4 to the power supply. In this manner the commutation energy can be efficiently returned to the power supply.
