Abstract

PURPOSE:To automatically strip a ribbon off a form by detecting the end of an ink ribbon and moving a carriage over a prearranged distance with regard to a thermal copying device using a thermal copying ink ribbon. CONSTITUTION:A head 4 is tightly pressed onto a platen 10 through the intermediary of an ink ribbon 11 and a printing form 6 under the rotary effect of a carriage 7 and then printing is performed. Following the shift of the carriage 7, the ribbon 11 is taken up by a take-up reel 15 as it is adhered to the form 6. When a pinch roller 24 has reached the printing position of the first character, it is sequentially stripped off the form. If printing proceeded further and the reader part 11a of the ribbon 11 is positioned between photocouplers 21, 22, the carriage 7 moves over a prearranged distance toward a printing direction. As a result, the ribbon 11 is further taken up and all the part which is adhered to the form 6 is peeled off.
