Abstract

1379000 Selective printing NCR CORP 26 July 1973 [4 Aug 1972 (2)] 35609/73 Heading B6F A printer comprises a print carriage 20 on which a print head 22 is mounted for movement towards and away from a platen 26 according to the thickness of the record medium, the print head 22 being biased towards the platen 26 by a spring 114 and a sensing means 32 being provided to contact the record medium. The sensing means may comprise a shoe (146, Figs. 1, 4, not shown), pivotally mounted on the print head, or a finger (204, Fig. 11, not shown), which engages a tape (200) pressed against the record medium. The print head may comprise wire printing elements 92, and may be letterspaced by a lead screw 48. A lever 116 is provided to withdraw the print head from the platen for insertion of the record medium.
