Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the efficiency of water separation from a dicarboxylic acid in filtration and to make the separation through filtration easy, by heating a fermented solution, from which microbial cells are separated previously, while keeping the pH of the solution not smaller than 7, followed by adding an inorganic acid so that its pH is lowered to not larger than 4.0 to precipitate the crystal of the dicarboxylic acid.
CONSTITUTION: A microbial cell is removed from a fermented solution, which is heated in a pH not smaller than 7.0. An inorganic acid is added to the solution to make pH not larger than 4.0 so that the crystal of the dicarboxylic acid is precipitated and separated. Thus, the dicarboxylic acid is purified. The pH in heating the solution is preferably 7.5W10.0. The inorganic acid preferably adjusts pH of the solution to not larger than 3.0. After the dicarboxylic acid is added to the hot treated solution, it is heated at a temperature not lower than the melting point of the dicarboxylic acid so that the dicarboxylic acid is partly dissolved and partly melted in the fermented solution, and it is preferably cooled. The heating treatment is preferably carried out at a reflux temperature under normal pressure in pH not smaller than 7.0.
